Poems (13)
I grew weary of life's burdens, and whoever lives
Eighty years - by your father! - will grow weary
Whoever does not use diplomacy in many matters
Will be bitten by fangs and trampled by hooves
Whoever puts kindness as a shield before his honor preserves it
And whoever does not avoid insult…
Whoever has abundance yet withholds it from his people
Will be dispensed with and blamed
I saw that death strikes blindly: whom it hits, it kills
And whom it misses lives long and grows old
Not everyone with reason gives you their advice
Nor is everyone who gives advice wise
I know the knowledge of today and yesterday before it
But I am blind to knowledge of what is in…
Whoever has virtue but withholds it from their people
Will be dispensed with and blamed
Whoever meets good, people praise their matter
And whoever strays will not lack a blamer for…
Whoever does good to those unworthy of it
Their praise becomes blame and they regret
A bright one whose hands are clouds
Over his seekers, whose favors do not cease
And your soul, guard it and protect it from ruin
For if you lose it, you will not find another
Know that forbearance adorns its owner
And that ignorance destroys who possesses it
