وُلد في بلخ وأصبح أعظم شاعر صوفي في التاريخ بعد لقائه شمس التبريزي. مؤسس الطريقة المولوية. يُلقب مثنويه بـ«القرآن الفارسي» لعمقه الروحي.
Born in Balkh, he became the greatest Sufi poet in history after meeting Shams al-Tabrizi. Founder of the Mevlevi Order (Whirling Dervishes). His Masnavi is called 'the Quran in Persian' for its depth.

I died from minerality and became a plant
I died from plant-hood and became an animal
مُتُّ مِنَ الحَيَوَانِيَّةِ فَصِرْتُ إِنْسَانًا
I died from animality and became a human
So why fear? When did I diminish by dying?
تَعَالَ تَعَالَ أَيًّا كُنْتَ تَعَالَ
Come, come, whoever you are, come
This is not the court of despair
مَا فِي القُلُوبِ سِوَى اللهِ مَحَلًّا
There is no place in hearts except for God
And everything other than God is vanity
