من أعظم شعراء العصر الأموي، اشتهر بالنقائض مع الفرزدق والأخطل. تغلّب على أكثر من أربعين شاعرًا في الهجاء. عُرف أيضًا بالغزل الرقيق إلى جانب الهجاء القاسي.
One of the greatest Umayyad poets, famous for his poetic duels (naqa'id) with al-Farazdaq and al-Akhtal. He defeated over forty poets in satire. Known also for tender love poetry alongside fierce attacks.
