شاعر بلاط خدم المناذرة والغساسنة. اشتهر باعتذارياته للنعمان بن المنذر. كان يرأس مسابقات الشعر في سوق عكاظ واعتُبر من أعظم شعراء المديح.
A court poet who served both the Lakhmid and Ghassanid kingdoms. Famous for his apology poems to King al-Nu'man. He presided over poetry contests at the Ukaz market and was considered one of the greatest praise poets.

فَإِنَّكَ كَاللَّيْلِ الَّذِي هُوَ مُدْرِكِي
You are like the night that will catch me
Even if I thought the escape from you was wide
وَلَسْتَ بِمُسْتَبْقٍ أَخًا لا تَلُمُّهُ
You will not keep a brother whom you do not forgive
For his faults - which man is perfect?
أَتَانِي أَبَيْتَ اللَّعْنَ أَنَّكَ لُمْتَنِي
It came to me - may you be spared curses - that you blamed me
And that is what I worry about and…
وَلا عَيْبَ فِيهِمْ غَيْرَ أَنَّ سُيُوفَهُمْ
They have no flaw except that their swords
Have notches from striking armies
وَلَسْتُ بِمُسْتَبْقٍ أَخًا لا تَلُمُّهُ
