A controversial Sufi mystic executed for saying 'Ana al-Haqq' (I am the Truth/God). After eight years in prison, he was crucified in Baghdad. He became a symbol of mystical union with the Divine.

أَنَا مَنْ أَهْوَى وَمَنْ أَهْوَى أَنَا
I am He whom I love, and He whom I love is I

فَإِذَا أَبْصَرْتَنِي أَبْصَرْتَهُ

قَتَلْتُمُونِي وَأَرْوَاحِي حُشِيَتْ هَوًى
You have killed me while my souls are filled with love
