«أمير الشعراء» الذي قاد النهضة الشعرية العربية. شاعر بلاط الخديوي عباس الثاني، كتب شعرًا وطنيًا وعاطفيًا وتاريخيًا. أحيت مسرحياته الدراما العربية. تُوّج أميرًا للشعراء عام 1927.
The 'Prince of Poets' who led the Arab poetic renaissance. Court poet of Khedive Abbas II, he wrote patriotic, romantic, and historical poetry. His plays revived Arabic drama. Crowned as Amir al-Shu'ara in 1927.

قُمْ لِلمُعَلِّمِ وَفِّهِ التَّبْجِيلا
Rise for the teacher and give him reverence
The teacher almost became a messenger
أَعَلِمْتَ أَشْرَفَ أَوْ أَجَلَّ مِنَ الَّذِي
Do you know anything nobler or greater than the one
Who builds and nurtures souls and minds?
وَلِلحُرِّيَّةِ الحَمْرَاءِ بَابٌ
And for red freedom there is a door
Knocked upon by every blood-stained hand
وَطَنِي أَنَا لَكَ مِنْ قَلْبِي سَلامُ
My homeland, from my heart I send you peace
Wherever I turn my face, you are before me
أَخَلاقُ النَّاسِ كَالمِرْآةِ تَشِفُّ
People's morals are like a mirror, revealing
The depth of their souls in clarity
رَمَضَانُ وَلَّى هَاتِهَا يَا سَاقِي
Ramadan has passed, O cupbearer, bring it
Longing, hastening to one who longs
إِذَا الإِيمَانُ ضَاعَ فَلا أَمَانُ
When faith is lost there is no security
And no world for one who does not revive religion
